The Bass

My Gibson The Ripper Bass

My Bass Guitar(s)Gibson The Ripper

My first bass was a Japanese Fender imitation by Tokai. It was (is) a good bass, it was the one on which I learned playing, and I played it for several years. When I was looking for an upgrade, I saw this Gibson The Ripper bass in a second hand store. It must have been the beginning of the 90ies. And although my that time band mates tried to convince me to finally by a real Fender, I had fallen instantly in love with this Gibson – and I have never regretted it.

Some time ago, one of the pick-ups broke down. Original replacement are hardly to be found, close-to-originals are very expensive… But thanks to Ben’s Guitar Repair shop in Brussels, who found somebody in France who was willing and able to rewind the original pick-up rewound, my bass is up and running again.

As I said, the Tokai Hard Puncher bass was the first instrument I bought, somewhere in 1989. It has served well, it was my c ompanion on my first gigs.
