I am DJ Nesta The Originator, born in The Netherlands, from 1997 till 2014 I lived in the Czech Republic and after living for 7 years in Brussels I moved to The Hague in the summer of 2021. I started to get into reggae when I was 13, my first reggae, ska and dub-gig was in 1998. Because of (the remains of) my hair getting grey – “The Reggae veteran” is what they sometimes call me.
I love reggae – so if you are looking for a DJ to entertain the crowd with a wide range of reggae and dub styles, you are at the right place. In my opinion, the best reggae has been made in the 70-ies and 80-ies – so that’s what you will mostIy here from me. I love to play at reggae and dub events, with my favourite mix of old-school reggae, dub and a bit ska and rocksteady. And with the best reggae from its golden years, it’s no problem either to get a more mainstream crowd on their dancing feet! On top of this, I have written some songs by myself as well, so singing may be part of my performance.

To give you an idea of my favourite tracks across different styles, I’ve uploaded a few mixtapes to Mixcloud. It gives you a rough idea of what you can expect from me. At dub sessions, I play more old-school and electronic dub; at tropical parties, more roots reggae and well-known reggae oldies – and at reggae events and my own showcase sessions, I play a bit of everything: ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub. Old school and 80s/90s tracks, obscure dub and reggae hits.

In July I did a try-out in The Hague, at the Carweide at the Binckhorst. And on the 12th of September I will play at a local neighbourhod party in The Hage, Laakhavens.
DJ Nesta The Originator
The name Nesta I am using already for more than 25 years – originally only as pseudonym for writing short political columns, since 1998 as DJ. When the internet came up, I found out that there are more “Nestas” in the DJ world – So I added the The Originator to my name. Why “The Originator”? I started playing reggae more than 20 years ago in Brno, Czech republic. As one of the first, with bi-weekly shows in the cellar of an obscure pub annex launderette called Mýdlo. That was the start of a blooming reggae scene. Many young people who attended my shows, started playing reggae themselves as DJs, MCs and Sound Systems – and they are still performing. They brought reggae in Brno to the next level and beyond – but like this how it all started:
